PIONEER STONE PROJECT

Conceived and implemented in the memory of Hugh Crittenden, who acted as caretaker for decades

The pioneer stone project is a project to mark each unmarked grave with a pioneer stone in order to preserve historical data and promote interest in the younger generation, thereby helping the preservation of the cemetery as a whole, for generations to come.  These stones were fabricated and placed by descendants of Neill and Jenett McKinnon.  

A pioneer stone is simply mortar poured in a 2x4 frame and stamped with concrete letter stamps.  These stones are expected to last about 100 years.  The technique can be seen here:
